The John Brown Blue-Painted Sack-Back Windsor Armchair

Approximately two dozen related chairs survive. A nearly identical chair with I.Brown carved into the arm is in the collection of the Rhode Island Historical Society (acc. no. 1970.82.1 and RIF4339). Other related chairs are noted in the Rhode Island Furniture Archive (see RIF1268, RIF2098, RIF3974, RIF3975, RIF5440, RIF7160).

Repair to medial back support on backside of central spindle. Backcrest later reinforced/secured with nails on each end at juncture with arms. Some shrinkage cracks to seat. Wear to painted surface. Very minor worm damage to underside of seat. Some spindles tightened with later nails. Otherwise good condition.
