This is one of only a three know straight front Newport slab tables with cabriole legs and serpentine front corners. A related table with cabriole legs ending ball and claw front feet belonged to John Brown is in the Rhode Island Historical Society (see Michael Moses, Master Craftsmen of Newport: The Townsends and Goddards (Tenafly, N.J.: MMI Americana Press, 1984), 231–232, fig. 5.21, 5.21a–b and RIF756). Another slab table with cabriole legs ending in four pad feet was once in the Doris and Richard M. Seidlitz of Pound Ridge, New York (see Sotheby's, New York, Important American Furniture: The Collection of Doris and Richard M. Seidlitz, January 30, 1988, lot 1761 and RIF4489)
