The John Brown Set of Four Chippendale Shell-Carved Mahogany Side Chairs
Newport, Rhode Island, circa 1780
Restorations. One with feet extended.
Provenance: John Brown (1736-1803), Providence, Rhode Island;
To his daughter, Sarah Brown Herreshoff (1773-1846);
To her son Charles Frederick Herreshoff (1809-1888);
Thus by descent in the Herreshoff Family line.

Wendy Cooper has suggested that these four chairs might be some of the 7 Frams, for worked Bottoms Chears … £203:00:00 that John Brown bought December 11, 1760 in Newport, Rhode Island.
