Baldwin was the dean of Ingenious Decorations (he disliked the term interior designer) and was the leading interior decorator of his time; He had such clients as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Mike Nichols, Diana Vreeland, Cole Porter, Billy Rose, Mary Wells Lawrence, the Paul Mellons and others.
