New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers, [1982]. 8vo. 245 pp. Publisher's purple cloth backstrip over cream boards, spine lettered in silver, publisher's unclipped ("$11.95") dust jacket. FIFTH PRINTING, SIGNED OR INSCRIBED TWICE BY WALKER ON THE HALF-TITLE: (in black ballpoint:) "For Lidia Peace + Sisterhood 12-7-82 Alice Walker" [and in purple marker]: "Alice Walker" (signature a bit blurry in one place).
Condition
Minor rubbing to binding, edge of text block soiled; jacket soiled, toned, rubbed, a few short marginal tears. A near fine copy in a good jacket.
- Provenance
This novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award in 1983. It was the basis for two films (1985 directed by Steven Spielberg and 2023, the musical version directed by Blitz Bazawule) and a successful stage musical (2005).
