[ANGLING]. COUCH, Jonathan (1789-1870). A History of the Fishes of the British Islands. London: Groombridge and Sons, 1864-1865. Thick 8vos. Illustrated with 252 chromolithographic plates of fish, from drawings by the author. 4 volumes. Contemporary full tree calf, boards ruled in gilt, spines ruled, tooled in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, red and green gilt morocco lettering labels, gilt board edges and turn-ins, marbled endleaves and edges.
Volume I rebacked preserving the original spine, some wear, soiling, faint surface cracking to boards, hinges of volume I repaired, bindings of the other volumes with cracking joints, edgewear, surface cracks, hinges starting; text lightly toned, with minor occasional foxing, title-pages with embossed stamps and with inkstamps on versos of title-pages. Bookplates of the Daniel Heald Collection at the Orange Free Library on all fps. Very good. EARLY EDITION OF THIS MONUMENTAL WORK ON BRITISH FISH.
