HERRMANN, Alexander (1844 - 1896). Alexander Herrmann's Silk Sword. Circa 1890. Specially crafted sword with detachable gimmick that allows the magician to instantly produce a colorful silk handkerchief at the tip of the blade on command. With fancy decorative cast brass handle and nickel-plated triangular blade. Requires new elastic (easily replaced). Length 33 1/2". With an LOA from Goulet tracing the ownership of the prop; for years, this sword was displayed in Ray Goulet's Mini-Museum of Magic in Watertown, Mass. along with several other Herrmann-used and owned props. A RARE relic from this famous Victorian conjuror's show, and one of only a handful of his props to have survived.
One of many Herrmann props owned and resold by Elmer Eckam, a professional magician and used magic dealer based in Rochester, New York (operating under the banner of his shop, "Art in Magic").
