[ROBERT-HOUDIN] Two Props from the Theatre Robert Houdin. French, 1870s [?]. Including a Handsome brass Plug Box in which objects may be made to appear or vanish, and a single brass cup from a set of three, used for the Cups and Balls. The latter with an expertly polished seam invisible from the exterior, indicating its relative age. The larger 4 1/4 x 3 1/4". Both with provenance tracing the apparatus to the famous Parisian theatre of Robert-Houdin, which was later managed by filmmaker and magician Georges Méliès.
Said to be from the Theatre Robert-Houdin, passed from Dicksonn to the collection of Professor Charles Emile Sauty ("Professor Rex," 1900 - 67), a Swiss-French composer, artist, and magician.
