Full crushed red levant with elegant gilt tools, upper cover with a roundel of inlaid grey, green, blue, tan, and burgundy morocco?s in the design of Gautama (the founder of Buddhism), 6 compartments with 5 raised bands gilt, gilt lettering and tooling in compartments, all edges gilt, gilt fillet turn?ins and cornerpieces, gilt stamp?signed by Bayntun; cloth chemise; morocco?backed slipcase. Provenance: Eugene Field (bookplate); inscription at rear dated 1924 from Eugene Field?s son, Eugene Field II, claiming that this book was from his father?s library. Field II was a notorious forger often adding bookplates and ownership signatures to the books. A VERY ATTRACTIVE BINDING.
