[BODONI, Giambattista, (1740-1813), printer]. BOETHIUS, Anicius Manlii (d. 524). De Consolatione Philosophiae Libri Quinque ad Optimarum Editionum Fidem Recensiti. Parma: Ex Regio Typographeo, 1798. 4to. cxvi, 271 pp. Contemporary full stiff vellum with gilt-ruled and gilt-lettered red and brown morocco spine labels. FIRST BODONI EDITION.
Condition
Boards lightly soiled and spine labels slightly faded, and lightly bowed outward. Very minor foxing and the occassional small chip or tear. Bottom corners torn on pp. ;xxxi-ii and 65-6, not affecting text. Fine.
- Provenance
Engraved bookplate of Charles Holte Bracerbridge (1799-1872), English man of letters and friend of Florence Nightingale, on front pastedown. Bodoni also produced a large paper issue (not this copy). Brooks 724.
