Illustrated. 2 volumes. 620; 610 pp. Publisher's full burgundy cloth, front boards and spines stamped in gilt (spines a bit sunned, mild rubbing to binding, some wear to frontispiece tissue-guards). Bright and fine. FIRST EDITION. ?Embellished, and at times wordy, these recollections by the ill-fated commander of the XI Corps are nevertheless above the average in style and contents?" (Nevins I).
