Profusely illustrated with plates and maps. 690 pp. Publisher's variant full gray cloth, front boards stamped in silver, gray, and gilt, spines stamped in gilt and gray (spine toned and edgeworn, some light rubbing, toning to boards). Fine. FIRST TRADE EDITION IN THE UNCOMMON VARIANT GRAY CLOTH, WITH A BOOKPLATE INSCRIBED BY LONGSTREET ON THE FP., ?Yours Truly James Longstreet Washington D. C. Nov 18th, 1897". Bookplate is from autograph and Americana collector Henry Preston Child. From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 9 x 7 x 3".
