[CIVIL WAR]. WELCH, Spencer Glasgow (1834-1915). A Confederate Surgeon's Letters to His Wife. New York and Washington: The Neale Publishing Company, 1911. Small 8vo. 121, [7, blank] pp. Half-title present. Bound in modern quarter black morocco over marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, black gilt morocco lettering label, later plain endleaves (endleaves toned and foxed, text toned with occasional soiling, library inkstamp on title-page and p. 29). Near fine. FIRST EDITION. ?Extremely revealing letters of army health and field medicine on the Southern side; Welch was surgeon of the 13th South Carolina." (Nevins). From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 6 x 4 x 1".
