[New York:] Gnome Press, Inc., [1953]. 8vo. 223 pp. Publisher's full blue cloth, spine lettered in purple, publisher's unclipped dust jacket (mild rubbing to cloth, skewed; jacket spine a bit toned, mild rubbing to jacket). Fine. FIRST EDITION OF CLARKE'S FIRST NOVEL. This title was later expanded into The City and the Stars. And: Expedition to Earth. Eleven Science Fiction Stories. New York: Ballantine Books, [1953]. 8vo. [170] pp. Publisher's full dark blue cloth, spine lettered in silver, publisher's unclipped dust jacket (light offsetting to endleaves; jacket spine a bit sunned, some rubbing and light edgewear to jacket). Fine. One of the stories in this collection is the first book appearance of The Sentinel, the basis of 2001: A Space Odyssey. From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy.
