FIRST EDITION, second issue with all BAL points present including p. 654 with ad for ?Personal History of Ulysses S. Grant?. Two frontispiece plates, numerous intertextual illustrations. Publisher?s full sheep leather, compartments ruled in gilt, two black morocco spine labels with gilt titles (backstrip and boards rubbed, front hinge worn with some restoration, upper joints starting, few pencil notations to front flyleaves). BAL 3316.
