DELLA PORTA, Giambattista (1535-1615). Magiae Naturalis Libri Viginti. Frankfort: Andreas Wechelus, 1591. 8vo. Printer?s device, woodcut initials, head and tail pieces. Contemporary vellum with titles gilt (notations to endpapers, soiling). Giambattista della Porta was an Italian polymath and scholar who was often referred to as the ?professor of secrets.? Includes chapters on invisible ink, distillation processes, and the transmutation of metal. Provenance: ?Minto? (bookplate).
