[DICKENS, Charles (1812-1870).] Sketches by Boz... Philadelphia: Lea & Blanchard, 1839. 8vo. Illustrated with 20 plates by George Cruikshank. 268 pp. Text in double-columns. Contemporary half calf over brown cloth boards, spine tooled in gilt, black gilt morocco lettering label. FIRST AMERICAN "COMPLETE" EDITION.
Condition
Binding worn, soiled, hinges starting, text a bit toned, thumbsoiled, text and plates foxed. Good.
- Provenance
The first American book edition of the 1839 Sketches, with The Public Life of Mr. Tulrumble and The Pantomime of Life added. Thus, the first American "Complete" edition. Gimbel A13. Wilkins, p. 12.
