DICKENS, Charles (1812-1870). The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club. London: Chapman and Hall, 1837. 8vo. [i-iv], vi, [vii], [x-xi], xii-xiv, [xv-xvi], [1], 2-609, [1] pp. With 43 plates. Rebound in early half green morocco over marbled boards, spine titled in gilt. FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM.
Condition
Binding toned, worn, scuffed, some occasional chipping to text, text a bit toned, with occasional thumbsoiling or foxing, plates foxed, ink ownership signature on first blank. Good.
- Provenance
Text is in the first state, according to Smith. Plates are in the state described in Smith as appearing in the bound copies, with a few exceptions (plates 17, 24, 25, 30, 31, and 33) which seem to be later. Smith I, 3.
