[ENVIROMENTALISM]. THOMAS, Edward (1878-1917). The Woodland Life. London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1897. 8vo. Frontispiece. 234, [2, ads] pp. Publisher's full green cloth, front board and spine stamped in dark green, spine lettered in gilt, yellow coated endleaves. Printed throughout in red and black. THE UNCOMMON FIRST EDITION OF THOMAS' FIRST BOOK.
Spine toned, binding generally rubbed, soiled, toned, hinges starting, text a bit toned with occasional thumbsoiling, some occasional pencil notes on endleaves and ads. Bookseller's ticket on fp. Very good.
Thomas was a poet, who is sometimes known for his war poetry (he served in the British army during World War I, and was killed in action in France), despite the fact that he had a successful career as a poet and travel writer before his service. This book was published when he was 19, and is his day-to-day record of his nature impressions of his native British countryside.
