Illustrated with 6 black and white etchings and numerous intertextual vignette illustrations. 117, [1, limitation page]. Publisher's pictorial boards, glassine, blue board chemise (spine stamped in gilt, pictorial paper lining), and slipcase (binding with minor rubbing at spine, endleaves with light foxing, some occasional light thumbsoiling in text, glassine toned with some marginal minor chipping, chemise spine sunned, light rubbing to chemise, fore-edge of slipcase a bit sunned, some edgewear to slipcase with light chipping to blue paper). Fine.#1265/1500 COPIES SIGNED BY PICASSO. Laid-in is the prospectus from The Print Club for the six signed original proofs and etchings by Picasso based on his illustrations for this book. Picasso's illustrations "... capture the braggadocio of both the men and women in the play, along with the pomposity and potent sexuality of the men and the recalcitrance and potent sexuality of the women" (Rutledge, The Guernica Bull, 2008). "The only American publication with original?Picasso?etchings, which are among his most important in the classical style" (The Artist and the Book 226). LEC 52.Measurements: 14"L x 12"W x 2"H.
