BLACKSTONE SR., Harry (1885 - 1965). Harry Blackstone Sr. Dancing Handkerchief. 1953. A white pocket handkerchief borrowed from the audience and then used by Blackstone in his famous Dancing Handkerchief routine in which the pocket square would dance and jump about the stage as if inhabited by a ghost. Framed in a shadowbox together with a later Blackstone pin, a knot from a length of rope, and a Paddle Trick later issued by Blackstone, and a later printing of a Sphinx magazine cover featuring Blackstone presenting the handkerchief trick. Frame dimensions 21 x 11".
Obtained by the former owner at a Blackstone performance at the Lyric Theater in Allentown, Pennsylvania on December 29, 1953, and with an LOA outlining the history of the display. A handsome display of this object imbued with life in one of Blackstone's most famous magical effects.
