[HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961), association]. Original Telegram from Pauline Hemingway (1895-1951) to Esquire Editor / Publisher Arnold Gingrich (1903-1976). Key West, FL via Chicago, IL: Western Union, 1937 Jan 11. Telegram on Western Union paper with pasted telegram text and Western Union sticker. Approximately 6 ½ x 8”.
Condition
Toned, some general wear, creases. Very good.
- Provenance
"Secondhand report absolutely baseless Ernest in Miami enroute to Newyork in shall we say perfect health thanks for solicitude=Pauline Hemingway." This seemingly tongue-in-cheek telegram from Pauline Hemingway to Arnold Gingrich was apparently designed to reassure Gingrich that Ernest was actually serious about his work for Esquire in New York, and not in Miami goofing off. Of course, other interpretations are possible.
