Profusely illustrated in color and black and white. 4 volumes. Publisher's tan buckram backstrips over plain boards, printed paper labels on spines, top edges trimmed, other edges untrimmed, as issued. FIRST EDITION OF THIS MONUMENTAL WORK, WITH NUMEROUS ILLUSTRATIONS AND MAPS.
Condition
Spines toned, some mild edgewear to boards and corners, 2 catalogue descriptions affixed to ffep. of volume I. Near fine.
- Provenance
With library bookplate of of the Town of Beverly Library and the bookplate of William Todd on all fps. "This rare work stands in the front rank of modern illustrated monographs. It is an exhaustive account of the ducks of the world, with synonymy, description, distribution, and characteristic habits, etc. of each species. The colored illustrations are also very fine, and the great number of distributional maps are quite a feature of the work." (Wood 518).
