  [ILLUSTRATED BOOKS]. [RELIGION]. Le Tableau de la croix represente dans les ceremonies de la Ste. messe ensemble le tresor de la devotion aux soufrances de Nre. S.I.C. le tout enrichi de belles figures. Paris: F. Mazot, 1651 [1653]. Small 8vo. 53 leaves: [7pp.], [74 pp.], [25] pp.. Engraved title (dated 1651) by Collin (a cancel?), Les Litanies, and 39 pages of prayers and illustrations, and 24 pages of prayers including two portraits (Jesus and the Virgin Mary) and the "Histoire de David" plate, the final page being the "Extraict du Privilege du Roy" dated 20 September 1652 but altered by hand to 1653. Modern tan paper boards, lettered in black on spine. A SUMPTUOUSLY ILLUSTRATED VERSION OF THE HOLY MASS IN LATIN AND FRENCH, WITH NUMEROUS FINE ENGRAVINGS THROUGHOUT - TEXT IS ENGRAVED.

  Light rubbing to binding, text lightly foxed, soiled, toned. Very good.

A.") on fp. "...l'une des trois publications importantes dont les gravures sont[.] révélatrices des tendances caractéristiques de l'illustration religieuse en France cette date. " ["one of the three important publications whose engravings are [.] revealing of the characteristic trends of religious illustration in France at that date."] (Jeanne Duportal, Etudes sur les livres figures du XVIIme siècle, pp. 244 et 245.).
