[JAMES I (1566-1625)]. Apologia pro Iuramento Fidelitatis... Hagae-Comitis [The Hague]: Jacob Hillebrandus, 1609. Small 8vo. 114, [xii], [ii], 1-97 pp. Two parts in one. Bound in contemporary calf, boards ruled in blind, spine ruled in gilt, four raised bands.
Boards worn, soiled, scuffed, front board, ffep. and title-page detached (yet present), text toned, occasionally soiled, final text leaf is mounted onto a blank and has repairs, some ink notations throughout. Good. EARLY (SECOND?) EDITION OF BOTH PARTS. This work is a defense of the royal Oath of Allegiance, urging European monarchs to resist Papal claims to secular power. The second part is a reply to various letters from Catholic clergy in which the clergy urge the laity to deny the Oath.
