[711] pp. Publisher's full blue cloth, spine lettered in silver, publisher's unclipped ("$10.00") dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY MANCHESTER ON THE HALF-TITLE TO AUTHOR AND JOURNALIST JAMES CANNON: "To Jim Cannon with admiration for his professional skill, and with warmest personal regards - Bill Manchester Wesleyan 17 III 67".
Condition
Cloth spine and board edges a bit sunned, rubbed, some minor soiling to board edges, minor soiling to edges of text block; light rubbing to jacket, rear jacket flap creased. Fine.
- Provenance
This book was Manchester's detailed account of the assassination of President Kennedy and the immediate aftermath. Cannon (1918-2011) was an author, journalist, and presidential aide under Gerald R. Ford (he eventually became Ford's official biographer). On January 6, 1960, Cannon famously recorded audio of a dinner party hosted by John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy (Cannon was a correspondent for Newsweek at the time). In this famous recording, JFK was heard pontificating about politics, campaigning, and the personal costs in the pursuit of high political office. Cannon's personal papers are housed at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Musuem. An excellent association copy from one author and journalist to another, both associated with JFK.
