[NEWSPAPERS]. [SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR]. Group of 40 Issues of The San Francisco Call with Illustrated Headline Stories About the War. March-August, 1898. 12-page issues of this local newspaper with illustrated stories about the war in Cuba and the Philippines. Issues approximately 22 x 17".
Condition
Toned, worn, soiled, foxed, creases at center, several issues with tears, chips, creases. Fair.
- Provenance
The newspaper reported on the "treacherous attack" on the U. S. S. Maine, and strongly supported U. S. military action against Spain in Cuba and the Philippines in response to this supposedly unprovoked attack (it is generally believed that a coal bunker fire destroyed the Maine, not a Spanish mine or other aggression).
