- Lot Description
PAGET, Sidney (British, 1860-1908). In the Tyrol. [Ca. 19th century - early 20th century]. Watercolor painting on board. Signed near lower right corner. Mat captioned in an unknown hand. Sight 20 ? x 34?. Matted 29 x 42 ??. Some wear, dampstaining on mat. Watercolor is fine. Paget is best known for his numerous illustrations for the original Sherlock Holmes stories, which have guided the appearance of later illustrations, stage presentations, films and television versions of Holmes. Although this artwork isn?t part of his Holmes oeuvre, original artwork by Paget is uncommon.
