This is an auction replete with standouts. Works by Magritte, Tamayo, Paschke, Wirsum and multiple mixed media collages and prints from the celebrated Tony Fitzpatrick will cross the block. PERKINS, Charles Elliott (American, 1881-1943). The Pinto Horse. Santa Barbara, CA.: Wallace Hebberd, 1927. Illustrated with color frontispiece and 16 black and white full-page drawings and several vignettes by Edward Borein. 76 pages. Two-page introduction by Owen Wister.SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by the author "Charles Elliot Perkins / Santa Barbara – Cal. / January 1928" along with AN ORIGINAL INK DRAWING signed by Borein and dated 1928 on the front endpaper. Engraved bookplate of John Stuart Groves on front endpaper. FIRST EDITION. In his introduction, Wister, known as the "Father of Western fiction," lauded this novel as "the best western story about a horse that I have ever read."
Condition
Original red stamped pictorial boards (joints worn, binding with minor rubbing at spine, and staining and toning to covers with edge wear. Pages with deckled edges. Minor foxing and toning.). No dust jacket.
