This is an auction replete with standouts. Works by Magritte, Tamayo, Paschke, Wirsum and multiple mixed media collages and prints from the celebrated Tony Fitzpatrick will cross the block. A significant work by Bill Traylor leads the Outsider Art session, alongside major works by Finster, Yoakum, Dial, Sparrow, and Dawson. Folk art includes a carved grotto Jesus and Devil train set sculpture from Wisconsin, and three oversize leaves by Ivan Albright lead the fine art session. Retablo. Oil on metal. 13 1/2 x 10".
Retablos are small devotional paintings or box shrines commonly found in Catholic traditions, particularly in Mexico and Peru. They originated from European altarpieces and are used to honor saints and express gratitude. Often displayed on home altars and in churches, retablos also represent vibrant examples of folk art.
Condition
Surface dirt, abrasions, paint loss in areas. Rust in areas. Metal torn in areas. Top left and bottom left corners missing.
