Bound with the second part, paginated separately, The New Atlantis; a Work Unfinished. Period-style paneled imitation calf, new endpapers. With the additional pictorial engraved title, engraved head pieces, lacking portrait frontis. Folio. Manuscript ex-libris to title, occasional spotting and marginal dampstaining, rust marks and other light wear. The third edition of Bacon?s work on natural magic and scientific experiments, containing an anecdote of a magician who forces a spectator to think of a certain card, and who makes two garters of the same length appear longer than one another.
