Commemorating the One-Hundredth Anniversary of the Birth of Judge John Alexander Matthews March 2, 1853. Albany, TX: John H. McGaughey's Albany News, [1953]. 8vo. Illustrated. [155], [1, blank] pp. Publisher's full burgundy textured cloth, front board and spine lettered in yellow (yellow stamping faded to green, spine edges and joints worn, some rubbing to board edges, corners a bit bumped, endleaves and text a bit toned, several gutters overopened). Very good. THE SCARCE REVISED PRINTING, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY BLANTON ON THE FP.: ?Presented in Memory of Mr. Clark H. King by his old friend Thomas L. Blanton". Beneath that is a later owner's inscription in pen: ?Mrs. Dawson received this from the King Family ? she give it to me Bess R Hollowell ? I have a copy ? so I give this book to Modelle [?] Dingio [?] + Luther II Hollowell Bess & Hollowell". The ink ownership stamp of Luther Hollowell is on the ffep. This rare book, printed only for all members of the Matthews-Reynolds families, is an excellent tribute and biography of Judge Matthews, a prominent cattleman and county judge. Matthews established the J. A. Matthews Ranch Company, with Lambshead Ranch as its headquarters. From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 10 x 8 x 1".
