THACKERAY, William Makepeace (?Arthur Pendennis?) (1811?1863). The Newcomes. London: Bradbury and Evans, 1854?55. Frontispieces, additional engraved titles, and numerous steel engravings after Richard Doyle (marginal browning). 19th century half polished calf over marbled boards, olive and red morocco spine labels gilt, raised bands, compartments completely gilt (minor edgewear). Provenance: Herbert Alexander St. John?Mildmay, 1836?1922 (bookplates). FIRST EDITION in book form that was first serialized in 23 monthly installments.
