Thomas Jefferson: Four Languages Signed Ships Papers. 15 3/4" x 19 3/4", August 4, 1802. The passport, printed in English, French, Spanish, and Dutch authorizes passage of "William Richardson, Master or Commander of the Ship Elisa of Salem of the Burden of 185 tons or thereabout, lying at present in the port of Beverly bound for Cadin....".
Document has loss at the top section and light damp marks, and has been rice paper backed. The signatures of President Thomas Jefferson and Secretary of State James Madison are bold and clear, and retains the original seal.

Property will not be released to the shipper without the buyer's written consent and until payment has been made in full. Packing and handling by us of purchased lots is at the entire risk of the purchaser, and Potter and Potter Auctions, Inc. will have no liability of any loss or damage to such items. Packing and shipping expenses shall be added to buyer's invoice and will reflect a charge for labor, materials, insurance, transportation, as well as actual shipper fees.
