Reymers, 1761. 12mo. xii, 274, [+2, ads] pp. Contemporary full calf, boards and spine double-ruled in gilt, five raised bands, edges sprinkled red. THE RARE FIRST ENGLISH EDITION.
Condition
Some rubbing, mild wear to binding, minor worming to boards, endleaves and blanks a bit offset, text a bit toned with minor occasional creasing. Illegible ink signature on ffep., and some related ink spotting on fp. Very good.
- Provenance
The translator of this title is unknown; he draws a parallel between these essays and Dryden's prefaces. This work contains an essay on Shakespeare and another on the learned women of history. ESTC (T137625) lists only 15 copies in North America.
