Illustrated with 3 mounted Woodbury-types from photos by Frith, 23 engraved illustrations, 2 color maps on one folding sheet. 336, [32, ads] pp. Publisher's full purple cloth, boards ruled in blind, spine stamped in gilt.
Condition
Spine and board-edges sunned to brown, some wear, soiling to boards, recased with later endleaves, first signature is partially loose, hinges starting, several gutters overopened, folding map with a few tears and tape repairs to verso, text a bit toned, ffep. with embossed library stamp. Good. FIRST EDITION. "The author made a stay in Kashmir for nine years between 1862 and 1871, and travelled widely in its country" (Yakushi D163b.)
