Spine a bit sunned, some rubbing, light scuffing to boards, 3 small holes on front board, text toned, some soiling to edge of text-block, some creasing to folding map. Fine. FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE VOLUME OF THE SURVEY OF INDIA. Mason (eventually achieving the rank of Lt. Col.), was a brilliant geographer and soldier, and was the first statutory professor of Geography at the University of Oxford. He helped to pioneer stereoscopic techniques that revolutionized cartography using land and air-based photogammetry. Before World War II, he worked with Ian Fleming (author of the James Bond novels - Fleming was working with military intelligence at the time) to use Mason's work to gain geographical intelligence on countries Mason had surveyed.
