WALKER, Robert J. (1801-1869). Document signed ?R.J. Walker? addressed to the Society of Political Economy of Paris, 9 August 1852. Six pages, 8vo, 267 x 210 mm, double-sided on four leaves. Void on right edge of pages slightly affecting text. FORMER SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY WALKER REGRETS TO INFORM SOCIETY OF POLITICAL ECONOMY OF PARIS HE IS UNABLE TO ATTEND MEETING, REMARKS ON GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE PROPERTY. Walker writes, ?A law for the division, or spoilation, of private property, is none the less agrarian, because it has the form of imperial edict on legislative enactment.? It is possible Walker is referring here to the growing animosity against the institution of slavery.
