New York and Saint Paul: D. D. Merrill Company, 1893. 8vos. 2 volumes. Illustrated with frontispieces and 14 plates. 426; 485 pp. Publisher's full blue cloth, front boards and spines decoratively stamped in red and gilt, top edges gilt (spines lightly toned and rubbed, text very lightly toned). Bright and fine. SECOND EDITION, PRESENTATION COPIES, BOTH VOLUMES INSCRIBED ON THE FFEP.: ?Paul J. Carman, Compliments of The Author. Nathaniel P. Langford, March 12, 1906". With Carman's inkstamp on both half-titles. Langford is famous for being one of the first people to describe the geological wonders of Yellowstone. The current title is his memoir of his exploits as a vigilante lawman fighting outlaws in the early 1860s. This title was first published in 1890. Howes L178.
