New York: Farrar Straus and Giroux, [1968]. 8vo. 416 pp. Publisher's full white cloth, spine stamped in rainbow colors, publisher's unclipped (?$5.95") dust jacket (cloth rubbed and toned at edges, gutter facing half-title starting; jacket spine and panel edges toned, edgewear, soiling, some marginal chipping and short tears). Very good. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, PRESENTATION COPY, WARMLY INSCRIBED BY WOLFE TO A CLOSE FRIEND ON THE FFEP.: ?For Dr. Esserman [elaborate exclamation point] I don't promise too great a contribution to medical history here? but I do hope you'll find a moment or two of enjoyment. With Best regards Tom Wolfe". Written in Wolfe's elaborate handwriting. One of Wolfe's most famous non-fiction titles, an early history of psychedelic drugs. A wonderful association, this book is inscribed to Wolfe's private physician, Dr. Paul Esserman (1923-1999). Esserman was Wolfe's doctor as well as a trusted friend. Wolfe even delivered the eulogy for Dr. Esserman. From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 10 x 7 x 2".
