- Lot Description
A carved leopard face ivory maskette. Nigeria, Owo. Late 19th to early 20th century. 5 1/4"h x 2 3/4"w x 1 1/4"d
Provenance: Inventory and Collection from the Estate of Merton D. Simpson. Catalog Notes: This maskette requires further study. The surface wear is compelling; however, in some areas the carving is not well balanced and somewhat crude for Owo. This piece could easily be far earlier than the late 19th century.
