Union civilian letter including original cover written her Soldier brother, George H. Muzzey who mustered into "F" Co. Massachusetts 26th Infantry, 10/18/1861. He re-enlisted on 1/5/1864. He was listed as POW 10/26/1864 Near Newtown, VA. In part, “Last Sabbath morning, there was an agent of the U.S. Freedmen Association at our church with three slave children from New Orleans, one boy and two girls. The boy was as white as you were at his age which is nine years. The girls are a little darker but as white as most children. ... The boy was a mulatto of Virginia and was sold with his mother for one thousand dollars to go to New Orleans and while Gen Butler was there they were released from jail where they were sent for safe keeping. ... Hattie Lowe's Soldier Boy has got home and they are married and live in Worcester. Lieut Col Sawtell (Josiah) has got home and the report is that he has been discharged. ... I see by the papers that Eugene Terry was wounded in the last Battle. James Burbam has gone home to attend his brother's funeral. They are expecting the bodies home this week.
