Letter datelined Bladensburg January 2, 1861, written to Judge William Hallam Tuck (Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals). In part, “I send you a letter that Mr. Wilburger sent me and I hired the boy to him for this year. He would not give me any more than $100 dollars a year for him. I had a great deal of trouble hiring them out. I cannot do any better for the price is falling for them. Mr. Wilburger is owing for the boy for the last year hire one $100.20 for him. You mentioned to me about collecting the state hire. I have not collect any for them. I wish you would come and tend to the state hands. I am not in a situation to attend to them. I am not well at this time. I hope this will find you and your family well.â€
