• Lot Description
  Thais Mather created a series of cupped hand candles in memoriam of the collective grief felt around the world during the Covid 19 pandemic. The candle will burn for approximately 8-10 hours. “I’m going to do something that many Americans dread. I'm going to be vulnerable, because many of us have lost someone this year and that is real. Sometimes it feels as though in this culture we’re supposed to just wake up the next morning, feel better, and buy something- right? I’m not sure what reality is- but I know that that is not it. And yet here we all are. Every morning the sun rises and the sky is blue and it’s there for us. And the sun sets, and the moon comes out and the stars come out--and there are so many wonders to behold when we open our eyes and really see and feel what is around us. Thank you for being here, for getting to be here. A real thank you to our earth for being there for us. I want you all to feel seen and held- and so please take time to feel that.. I created a candle for you to take a respite and to memorialize those whom you have lost. I lost my aunt Thais to Covid-19. We burn the candle of our own life, which is interconnected to those who came before- and those we do not know who will come next.” – Thais Mather
