- Lot Description
1963 FAO Schwarz Hide and Wood Rocking Horse with Jackie's Treasures Book. A plaything for wealthy children, with genuine horsehide and mane and tail hair stitched into the formed body, attached by metal hinges to the wood. The horse is highly realistic, with a bridle on and accompanied by a child-sized saddle and attachable spurs. The horse appears in numerous images in the book, which is included to indicate the age and style of the piece as well as their potential value.

Founded in 1862 by German immigrant Frederick August Otto Schwarz in Baltimore as “The Toy Bazaar,” FAO Schwarz moved to New York City in 1870 and adopted that name ten years later. One of the world’s oldest and most iconic toy retailers, they are renowned for their luxurious, unique toys and experiential, magical flagship stores, which became a cultural institution known as “Santa’s Headquarters.” After the family business was sold in 1963 it went through many owners, including Toys “R” Us, and after closing their primary location in 2015 due to high costs the brand returned with a new store in Rockefeller Center in 2018 which has survived multiple economic swings and the COVID-19 pandemic.
