(5) Pre-Columbian Ceramics. Lot comprised of five various Pre-Columbian ceramic items, including three bowls, one pitcher, one column square with owl.
Pre-Columbian ceramics refer to the pottery created by indigenous cultures of the Americas before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492, encompassing a vast range of styles, functions, and artistic expressions across regions such as Mesoamerica, the Andes, and the Amazon. These ceramics were often hand-built without the use of a potter’s wheel and served both utilitarian and ceremonial purposes, including food storage, cooking, ritual offerings, and burial goods. Cultures like the Maya, Aztec, and Moche produced highly detailed vessels, effigies, and figurines, frequently decorated with painted scenes, incised patterns, or sculptural elements that reflected religious beliefs, social hierarchy, and daily life. Pre-Columbian pottery not only demonstrates technical skill and aesthetic sophistication but also serves as a critical source of information about ancient American civilizations.
