Cesare Lapini (1848-1893) Italian, Figural Marble Sculpture "Economista Precoca" (The Early Economist). Delicate 19th-century Italian marble sculpture by Cesare Lapini, depicting a young girl in a simple tunic sitting cross-legged on a rustic wooden chair while thoughtfully counting on her fingers. Signed C. Lapini on edge of base.
Size: 11 1/2 x 13 x 26 in.
Cesare Lapini (1848–1893) was a prominent Italian sculptor based in Florence, celebrated for his exceptional technical skill in carving white Carrara marble. Operating a large and successful studio that catered to an international clientele during the late 19th century, Lapini became a master of the Neo-Renaissance and Romantic styles. His portfolio ranges from grand, classically inspired allegorical figures to charming, smaller-scale genre scenes that captured the delicacy of lace, fabric, and soft skin in stone. Today, his work is highly sought after by collectors for its lifelike realism and "bravura" carving, with famous pieces like The First Kiss serving as definitive examples of the refined elegance that defined Florentine sculpture of his era.
