Chelsea Clock Aneroid Naval Barometer.
Aneroid barometer with numeric measurements in inches, centimeters, and millibars.
Size: 6 x 6 x 3 in.
Chelsea Clock aneroid barometers, produced by the renowned Chelsea Clock Company of Boston, are finely crafted instruments prized for both their accuracy and elegant design. Made without the use of liquid mercury, these barometers rely on a sealed, flexible metal chamber that expands or contracts with changes in atmospheric pressure, moving the needle on the dial to forecast weather. Often housed in solid brass cases with glass bezels, they were popular in the late 19th and 20th centuries for maritime use, where dependable weather prediction was critical, as well as for domestic display as symbols of refinement. Today, Chelsea aneroid barometers are highly collectible, valued for their precision engineering, historical association with American maritime tradition, and timeless aesthetic appeal.
