Honoré-Victorin Daumier (1808-1879) was a French artist who moved to Paris as a child, where poverty forced him to work and study art at the Louvre and the Académie Suisse. As a staunch republican democrat, Daumier rapidly gained a reputation for his prolific political cartoons and satirical lithographs, often lampooning the monarchy, the wealthy, and the clergy. Although his paintings were largely ignored during his lifetime, they blended caricature and fine art, influencing a younger generation of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters. Daumier was incredibly productive, creating over 4,000 lithographs and 500 paintings, securing his lasting legacy in modern art.
Print is discolored and exhibits mat burn. Image is good.
