- Lot Description
Vintage Italian Louis XVI Style Mahogany Table de Nuit Made for Bloomingdale's. The round marble top with a pierced brass gallery and a single drawer below makes this a truly exquisite bedside table. A plaque on the underside next to a branded "Made in Italy" indicates its origins.
Size: 13 x 25 1/4 in.
Founded in 1861 by brothers Lyman and Joseph Bloomingdale in New York City, Bloomingdale’s began as a hoopskirt shop before evolving into a premier luxury department store, famously opening its iconic 59th Street flagship in 1886. Known for its fashion-forward curation and “Brown Bag” branding, it merged with Federated Department Stores (now Macy’s, Inc.) in 1930 to survive the Great Depression. They played a crucial role in shaping post-War fashion, as well as the mall culture by being a fixture at many throughout the United States. Despite facing economic difficulties in the 1990s, they celebrated their 150th Anniversary in 2022 at their Manhattan flagship location, and remain one of the largest retailers in the country.
